CHRISTIAN CHURCH OF ANTIOCH This church was founded in 1898 and is located in the Northeastern portion Township in section 10. The congregation represented the withdrawal of a "progressive" block from the Dutch Bethel Church of Christ. During the 5 year ministry of W.J. Brown from 1893-1898 there was much agitation by and against the members who favored securing an organ for use in the worship at Bethel and against Sunday school there. In February of 1898 two of the three elders of the Dutch Bethel Church along with half of the members walked out. The "new" church convened again at School #2 in Jefferson Township and formed a church organization and Sunday school. The earliest church book is inscribed "Antioch Church organized March 20, 1898.On May 1, 1898 the Antioch church building was dedicated about 2 miles from the Old Dutch Bethel Church. (It appears the later some of the members returned to the Bethel Church) A FEW NOTES-- *In some instances there stands a name with another in parentheses, from what I can find in lookups, the name in parentheses is a "married name". *A "letter" is a letter of introduction to/from another church. *A date without explanation I take to mean date they joined the church. *If there is a number in parentheses after a name, that means it is a duplicate of another name and signifies that it is a different listing. THERE ARE TWO SETS OF LISTS HERE; PLEASE READ BOTH OF THEM - BEFORE LEAVING THIS PAGE. EARLY MINISTERS Aaron Walker 1898-1899 H.C. Patterson about 1901-1903 Willis Cunningham McGowan 1908-1909 B.M.
