County Coroners

The county coroner was the man who certified the death of a person. He took information such as property on the person, where it happened, cause of death and spoke with any witnesses. For this job he was normally paid about $5.00 for the service and additional amounts for the making & filing of the report and then sometimes his mileage to and from the scene.
