Dutch Bethel Church of Christ
1843-1930

Page created May 1, 2011

The following membership list was graciously transcribed and submitted by Nicole Wedemeyer Miller.

The Dutch Bethel Church of Christ was also known as the "Old Bethel Church". It is one of the oldest churches in Owen County. From information I have found, it was started sometime around the year 1843. It is located in the Jefferson Township area.

This information is taken from a book called The Churches of Christ in Owen County, Indiana by Reverend A.T. DeGroot, self-published in 1930. Reverend DeGroot took this information from a page on the history of the church written by Elder Joel Dillon, which he wrote "early in the history of the church." Reverend DeGroot writes "if a record of church members of the middle history was kept, it has been lost."

The congregation meets for worship every Lord's Day, and has preaching once a month by Elder Joel Dillon.

(Debbie's Note: As the listing is quite lengthy but presented in alphabetical order rather then by the years, I have chosen to break it down that way for easier searching. Any additional information given is presented.)
