Through much searching around the counties, and coming up with few results~ I decided to contact the Indiana State Library for information regarding whatever health records may have been held concerning the counties. Through the assistance of a very nice man named Jesse Lewis I was sent the following information. While not completely what I had hoped for, it does provide some data regarding the time frames. I've checked the Board of Health Reports to see if any of the county health departments reported local epidemics during the time between 1890 and 1910 in Morgan and Owen Counties. I don't believe that public health records were kept much before the 1880's owing in part to lack of organization and communication about outbreaks. The Morgan County reports from 1894 to 1898 were all good, with no reported epidemics. The Owen County reports from 1890 to 1910 were mixed. Some years saw no significant disease activity, and reports from other years show significant outbreaks with few deaths. The years that report fatal epidemics to one extent or another in Owen County are: 1895-96: Typhoid fever at Romona 1896-97: Diptheria in Jefferson, Lafayette and Marion townships 1901-02: Smallpox at Patricksburg and Freedom; scarlet fever at Gosport; 44 deaths from tuberculosis
