Coal City History Program

Featured speakers Thelma Burger, Edna Ruth Smith, and possibly others will discuss Coal City's rich and fascinating history, with an emphasis on community clubs, organizations, events, and activities. Historical items on display during the program will include pictures, booklets, documents, yearbooks, and others. Everyone is invited to attend and welcome to participate in the discussion, reminisce, and share knowledge of the town's history.

After the program, everyone is invited to visit the historic Coal City railroad depot and preview some of the history displays that will be featured during the upcoming Coal City festival. The depot was restored by the Coal City Preservation Society and serves as a community building and museum. It is Owen County's only remaining depot. The church and depot are both air-conditioned and handicap accessible.

Plan to attend and learn about the interesting history of this once thriving town. Hope to see you there. Please tell anyone about the program who you think might be interested in attending.
