Book 1870 census also lists John W. Payne in his aunts household and age 11. Note: It is also my belief that John W. Payne age 21 was living with his aunt Mary A.R. Payne Steele and her husband James N. Steele in the 1880 Census of Wayne Twnshp, Owen Co. He is identified as "nephew" which would be correct for James N. Steele's relationship to John W. Note: There is a possibility that J W. may have married Lilly D. Orrell 4-15-1877. The Owen Co., Marriage records do list a marriage between J. W. Payne and Lilly D. Orrell. This is just conjecture at this time. I have found a Lilla L. Orrell in Taylor Twnshp in 1870 census age 9. Consequently the Lilly Auel that I listed may or may not exist or be correct. 1880 Census Taylor Twnshp, Owen Co., does list a Lillie L. Payne age 19 in the household of her brother Adolphus Orrell. She is listed as a boarder and has a daughter "Myrtie" age 2 living with her. There is no mention of her husband or his location. It will be necessary to check the marriage license to confirm that this is the same John W. Payne. Note: The census enumerator in 1880 was Vincent Anderson. A review of the 1910 Census for Morgan Co., Monroe twnshp does not produce J Will Payne 1920 Morgan Co., Monroe Twnshp, Indiana lists J. Will Payne age 61, wife Ida B. age 64,67 or 69 he is listed as no occupation, both born in Indiana. 1930 Census for Marion Co., Indiana Center Twnshp on Broadway St. lists James Washburn and wife Martha and son Harry E. and daughter Edith and aunt Ida B. Payne a 70 year old widow. The only one in the household with an occupation was Harry E. working as a bookkeeper on Electric Meters ******************************** JOHN FINLEY PAYNE FAMILY Note: It appears that Cornelia Van Meter may have been his third wife. See notes below Note: Further information on John and his second wife, and his daughter from his marriage to Martha J. Dean (Florence Payne Lawson widow) comes from the 1900 Federal Census. They were living in Montgomery Twnshp, Owen Co., Indiana at the time. Note: 1880 Federal Census Montgomery Twnshp., Owen Co., In lists John F. Payne age 48 and wife "Catherine" age 45. This must be her middle name. Its list children, Mary 16, Martha 12, John C. age 1. John Payne lists his father being born in Ohio and mother in Ky, Catherine lists mother and father in Virginia. Mary lists both parents being born in Indiana, but Martha and John C. each show father being born in Kentucky and mother in Ohio. Are these children though listed as daughter and son, actually those of someone else? 1860 Federal Census Jennings Twnshp (Quincy) Owen Co., In lists John F.
