JAMES & MARY (JACKSON) RAY DESCENDANTS

I currently have an extensive compilation of the descendants of James and Mary (Jackson) Ray of Martinsville, Indiana. I am seeking information on more recent generations of the descendants of this family and am willing to exchange information with other researchers of this family. James Ray, a carpenter in and known in the 1870's in Martinsville as Uncle Jimmy, was born in Wythe County, VA circa 1794 and died in Martinsville, 13 March 1875. He was the son of John and Mary Margaret (Ferguson) Ray. James married on 18 September 1828 Mary (Polly) Jackson in Wayne County, Kentucky. Mary was born 8 September 1809 in Pulaski County, KY and died 12 August 1886 in Martinsville. Their children were John Forgason, Andrew H., William A., Mary E., Amanda J., Harriett A., Margaret Susan, and J. E. Ray. I am seeking a living direct male descendant of this family in order to acquire a genealogical DNA profile on this Ray-Rhea family branch. Latest known direct male descendants of this family were sons of John Bogle Ray. They were John Clay and Forrest Earl Ray who were oculists (opticians?) in Indianapolis. They had a brother, Glenn Ray, who worked for Indianapolis Power and Light Company, and is believed to have lived to be nearly 100 years old. All three of these brothers were alive at the time of the 1930 U.S. Census.

TRUAX/KENNEY FAMILIES

Nora Truax married Vernon Kenney, 12 Jul 1922 in Morgan County. They lived in Frankfort, Indiana for a period of time in the 1930's, then moved to Springfield, Ohio. He died there in September 1964, and was buried in Cloverdale Cemetary, Putnam County, Indiana. She died 15 Sept 1990 in Springfield, and was also buried in Cloverdale Cemetary. I would be interested in having any information about the Truax line (or Kenney for that matter) which you can share.

PARENTS OF JOSEPH WHITE

Requesting help finding information about my gggrandfather, Joseph White, born about 1834 somewhere in KY, according to census. My first finding of him is when he married Louisa Coston in 1855 in Owen Co., IN. They moved around a bit in Owen and Morgan counties and had a lot of children, one being my ggrandfather, David "Paris" White, born abt. 1867, who married Laura "Alice" Durbin, (daughter of Edward and Lucinda). The common surname is hindering, along with a common given name. What is interesting to me, though, is that the name "Paris" is given to other local men with the White surname, I cannot make a connection, but feel there must be one. I think I have found 4 of them in total. I would love to find out the name of Joseph's parents, or siblilngs. If anyone should have information, I would welcome an e-mail.

PARENTS OF ELMIRA JANE SCOTT

I am looking for the parents of Elmira Jane Scott. She used the name Jane. She was born in Indiana on 28 Nov 1828 and married in Owens Co., on 9 Mar 1846. She married a David Tosser, the Owens Co marriage records have it as Toper due to the funny looking f that means double S. She named her daughters; 1st born was Ellen Jane, then Nancy Emily, Barbara Adeline, Eliza Isabella, Julia Ettie and Minnie Mildred. The boys names were; 1st born named after the Tosser family, David Henry, then John Arthur, Peter Douglas, William Harvey, and James Samuel.

I know there was another Elmira Jane Scott in Owens County and they are probably connected but need help in identifying my Elmira's line.

CHARLIE KEMMERER/KEMMER

I am in need of some help. If anyone has access to old news papers for Owen County and most likely Freedom I am trying to find an obituary or article on a Charlie Kemmerer (Kemmer) who as the story goes was killed about the age of 21years from falling from a train the time frame for this is about 1888 to 1900. I also think that he was married to Mattie. If someone might have access to some marriage records I think this would have been around 1888 to 1900

ELIAS KEMMERER

My research is for the family of Elias Kemmerer. He and his wife Henriette lived in Freedom Owen County from about 1873 to around 1899. They had 4 children John, Charlie (Charly), Roxie and Altheona. The family story is that Charlie was killed by a train. I have located the family in the 1880 census but because there is not a census for 1890 I haven't placed them in that year. I have found them in Mo. in 1900. If any one has access to death records or maybe obituary's and could look up Charlie Kemmerer. He was born about 1876 and the story is that he was killed at about age 21. Thank you for any help

GEORGE LESTER FAMILY

Looking for the George W. Lester family. According to my information George was born 1852 (not sure where) and died about 1898 in Freedom, Owen Co. Indiana. He married Mary Elizabeth Thomas. She was born 1854 and lived to be about 103 years old, passing away in about 1957. I have a picture of her that was in the local newspaper stating that she was 100 years old and Owen Co's oldest resident. This picture must have been published in 1954. At that time her name was Mary Schoonover. (I have found information were she married a man by the name of Silvestr Schoonover,( found in the 1930 census). George & Mary had seven children that I am aware of. William , Nancy, Lavada, Oliver, James, Clara, & John. According to some of the boys obit I have been able to acquire, it lists relatives still living in Martinsville, In. This was in the late 1960's & early 1970. I would be very interested in any information on this family anyone may have, or would like to get in touch with any living relatives still in the area.

PARENTS OF ELI SINK

I am researching Sink, Zink, Myers, Pritchard, Pritchett in Owen, Morgan and Putnam Counties, IN. Specifically, I seek the parents of Eli Sink b. 1824 Indiana, m. Amanda Pritchard, 6 Feb 1851 in Owen County, IN (her father Andrew Pritchard, mother Louisa Eliz. Myers). Eli died while visiting relatives 18 Mar 1894 in Alaska IN and his remains were shipped home to Terrell, Kaufman County, TX. It is likely that Eli Sink had at least two brothers, Paul Sink who is listed on 1880 Morgan Co. IN census. Paul died in Kaufman Co. TX 8 Jun 1894, no mention of family in local obit. The other possible brother is Jesse Sink, (note that Eli changed spelling to Zink in Texas) although phonetically, Zink in German is pronounced "TSink". Jesse married Hannah Beck, whose father was involved with the Mercer Colony in Texas and this marriage was to acquire land in Texas. Jesse and Beck divorced shortly after their arrival in TX and no further record of Jesse Sink is found. It is possible there is a connection with Elmsley, Simpson and Mary Sink, but as yet undocumented. Thank you for any assistance with the above.

GEORGE MILTON BULL

I am looking for information on my ancestor George Milton Bull, who settled in Spencer, Owen County, Indiana about 1811 or 1819. His obit says born in Ohio in 1806 and moved to Spencer when he was only 7. That makes 1813 which sounds a little early. He married a Sarah McCarley on 2 DEC 1832 in Spencer. Migrated to Coles County, Illinois in about 1854 or so. Some other family that were derived from that union was Mary Bull (daughter) and Jacob Hooper, married 06 OCT 1853 in Spencer, Owen County. What I am specifically looking for is the name of George Milton Bull's father. I suspect he resided in Owen or Morgan counties, but not having a first name I do not have a clue where to start. G.M. Bull did state that his father was from Virginia. Thomas Bull of Owen County was from Virginia but there is no "George" listed as his offspring. Any help finding the father of George Milton Bull would be greatly appreciated. That is where I stop in my seventh generation of the Bull family. Thanks and Best Regards
