SOCIAL SECURITY INDEXES

TIP #24

The Social Security Database is a great source for finding any ancestors who died after the institution of Social Security payments until the year 2001. This source will provide the name and birthdate of the individual as well as the death date.

Provided also will be the state in which the card was issued and also when and where the last benefit was paid. The only thing is that in searching for someone listed you need to have some type of information on the person as there are so very many persons with the same name, you will want to make certain that you are finding the correct one for your family lineage.

This particular additional information could be something as simple as a middle initial or where they may have been residing at the age of applying for the card. If you know your ancestor never lived outside of Indiana, you can therefore eliminate any that have the card issued elsewhere.
