Morgan Co. Indiana on his fathers farm of eighty acres, and there made his home until eighteen years of age. His schooling was limited for he attented not over two months in a year, and left school altogether when fifteen years of age. When in his seventeeth year he went to Guilford twp, Hendricks Co. Ind and there entered the blacksmith shop of Verlin Jones. His brother-in-law with who he remained for eighteen months, after four months work on a farm in Iowa he returned to Jones shop and remained with him for nine months. after this he worked for a farmer named Z.L. Jackson who owned a blacksmith shop for about two years. On Dec 24, 1853 he married Purlina Stone. and on mar 13, 1854 he located in west newton Decatur Twp. marion Co. Indiana and opened a blacksmith shop which he carried on for nine years. He would reach into his pocket and say " I've got something for you" and he would always give each of us a nickle. One day my oldest brother told him he wanted a big un. Meaning he wanted a Quarter. so Grandpa gave him a quarter. The rest of us still got nickles. I remember him as always having a big smile and snow white hair.
